| What is up with published numbers? I have terrible luck locating wrecks and other bottom structure off published numbers on charts and other sources. I have a Hilton's book with hundreds of numbers in it and seems like most of them are so far away from the actual spot I can't ever find them. We went to the numbers for the Miss Jenny last week and fortunately there were some other boats there. On the numbers, nothing. Other boats were about 300 yards away. We hit five spots on Sunday and found two after searching in circles out about 600 yards on each. Where can I get actual reliable and accurate numbers for public spots?

Just keep doing what you're doing. Most of the posted numbers aren't that accurate to start with then 10 years of hurricaines does move them a bit.
I support separation of commercial and recreational fishing. I support the ethics of sportsmen including conservation of our fisheries and recommend taking only what you can use without waste within legal limits.

| As I hate to fish on weekends but I still do as it's an easy way to find public spots that have been adjusted by past Hurricanes..I just buzz by the many anchored boats to edit my GPS numbers in case I want to give a try on my way in during the week..I prefer natural bottom I discover on my own and keep away from other folks jockey'en for positions on public wrecks...try it..after spending time finding good bottom you'll bring home more meat for the table with a stress free day... Great luck to ya!!! Jimmy

Going back to the days of no info, searching within 600 yards is a deal. Also, many sites were dropped in the era of LORAN, the GPS conversions have to be off, then add the number of storms in recent years has to have moved some spots. Searching for the spots are part of it.

Don't spend much time on public spots and mostly when I do its on days like last Sunday when no one else is out. Not much of a bottom fisherman anyway, but fun once n a while and I'm always down for some grouper on the table. Anyway, thanks for the feedback. Got some nice PM's too (nobody gave me their secret bottom honey hole, but hey, didn't plan on that).

| I have wondered the same thing I have searched and searched with limited luck at best. Is it that the wreaks are old and gone by now or the they have been covered up by sand or as you guys say moved due to storms??

A little of all of those. A good depth/fish finder will do wonders however. Trying to find a wreck with an old unit will be considerably harder.

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
