They are registered with the AKC as a yellow lab. A true yellow dog has a black muzzle. A white  dog has a pink muzzle like a chocolate.

Nice looking pups. No they don't grow up to be yellow. All though there could be one or so to get darker with age. Have had around 12 litters with white pups in the last 10 years. Not all the whites have pink noses their will be some with black noses also.

I just got two white lab pups this week. They are the smartest dogs I ever had. They are already house broken, and into all kinds of mischief. I definitely recommend this breed if you are looking for really smart, and wonderful hunting dogs. Good luck.

Thanks for the responses, I guess most everyone agrees labs are great dogs, regardless of color. Mine are smarter than alot of people I've known!

Do the yellows fit the AKC standard for a lab?

I would expect that, if they didn't fit AKC standards, the AKC wouldn't register them??

They are like any other animal, there will be variations to the standards set out for the breed.

It's kinda like a common sense thing.

AKC doesn't look at the pups to register them. Just like the silver lab isn't a recognized AKC breed, but it is registered as a chocolate lab.

Those dogs are beautiful. I have a Black Lab,12yrs old, and he has been the best dog I have ever had. If my wife wouldn't kill me I would love one but I wish you well on the sale. That is a great price on that breed.

My pup Callie just turned a year old and is around 80lbs. She's a very smart pup and great with my 2 year old. If you are looking for or thinking about a new dog I highly recommend one of Johns.

John, (forgive me if this is a stupid question but here goes..) are these labs what some call "American" labs. The reason I ask the question is because I have a female chocolate "English" lab. She is an awesome dog and extremely smart, but her fur is so damn thick that I can't wash all of the dirt out of it. It's like owning a beaver. I have been told by some breeders that this is a common trait of the "english" variety and the "american" variety tend to have fur that is less thick. It appears in your photos that the parents fur is less dense than mine. Am I of my rocker on this? I would like to buy another lab pup but I don't want to have to power wash my dogs.

Labs have a thick undercoat and an oily topcoat, the coats are made this way so the dog doesnt get soaked, waterlogged etc..They are water dogs, its why generally you shouldnt use shampoo on labs as it breaks up the oils or summinlikethat. They are somewhat water resistant if you will.

I have not heard that "english" dogs had a more dense fur. I know they are typically smaller than "American" labs. I see differing degrees of coat and fur thickness among puppies of the same litter. Not a drastic difference, but noticeably. Thought I'd let you guys know, I have one chocolate female and three white males left(kinda weird, people are normally all over the whites, cause they are uncommon) I'll make a "forum sale" and give a forum member a white puppy for $500    (thanks Anthony, glad Callie is doing well!)

I am trying to talk my wife into one of the white's.  But we also have a 13 1/2 year old doberman (he was my college room mate) and he pouted for a month when we brought Luna the Lab home 8 yrs ago. I fear that it might break his heart.

and yes, our chocolate is an "english shortie". i think she is as wide now is she is tall.

Really no difference between an English and American lab. However, there's a Show breed and a Field breed. Show breed is short and stocky, has a shorter snout and more rounded head, and has a thicker coat. Field dog is tall and skinny, long limbs, longer snout and more oval head, and the coat is thinner, but still has a thick top coat to repel water.

Go look at pics of both types and you can see the difference. All three adult labs in the pics look more like the Field breed.

Not trying to derail, great looking pups by the way. Our lab is 8 in July, great dog, most likely never will have another breed. The lab is such a good family/hunting dog. Anyway there is a difference in British/European labds and the American breed, mostly to do with size, some facial features, but namely the British/European breed is a little more willing to please (as if the American breed isnt.....). The Brits/European are generally a little easier to train as well. After tons of research on this we are looking here for our next dog. Enjoy....
