I'm headed to Bob Sykes with the kids today and I was wonderring if the flounder bite was any good? My mom is a part vegan from chicago whom only eats fish and she going to be here visisting later in the week. I would like to treat her to some fresh flounder while she's down. Thanks for the tips.

Monday morning Pensacola Pier

Monday morning was a tad chilly, but bonitos were caught by just about everyone on the end. One king was brought up; I missed my only king bite. Other than that, just a few hardtails and blues, as far as I could see. Definitely better than Sunday, where blues dominated - no big-fish bite that I saw.

Water is gin-clear and baitfish were plentiful on Monday morning.

I fished the surf in the a.m.(1 pomp) too rough,so I went the pier . I ended up catching 5 pompano , 1 permit , and 1 spanish on a pomp jig. They were all keepers but nothing huge. They were also caught on sandfleas. I threw the permit back. They were cacthing kings all day ,agian nothing big but keepers .

went to palafox pier last night caught a few ribbon fish on a 1/2 oz. d.o.a. c.a.l. glow in the dark jig saw a few people catching a few white trout but nothing to brag about may be better luck next time. It's been tough to catch any thing lately any of yall out there got any tips or hot spots they would be apprichated :banghead

"Charlie Moore" vs. Who on the P/cola Pier in Cobia Season?

ESPN produces a TV Show called "Beat Charlie Moore". Charlie is a guy from Boston that takes Challanges from anyone and shows up to fish against them on their water and fishing their way. He claims to be unbeatable, and has an impression of being very cocky and arogant, but that is more than likely TV drama, but the Boston Accent does add some arrogant ooze to the show.

If I sent in a challange to ESPN to challange Charlie Moore to fish against someone on the P/cola Pier during Cobia Season, who would be the most unforgiving, difficult, and brash person to pit him against? Normally the show is produced over the course of a day, and edited to a 30 minute program. So it would more than likely one cumbersome day for the pier and regular anglers. Wouldn't it be cool to watch the supposedly unbeatable, cocky and confedant Charlie Moore try to find a fish or a spot against the rail, not to mention fish against the High Talent he would be fishing with and against?

I would love to see him with a manual reel.

Who should be the challange and who's up for it?

Just got back from my lunch time stroll down to Palafox Pier. When I got there a guy was hooked up and after a good fight he pulled a 20# king over the rail. It was foul hooked under the chin so it was a damn fine job getting him in.

Pomps at PCB Pier

Flounder Biting On 17th Avenue bridge

I went to the 17th avenue bridge instead of bob sykes. The doormats are there! I watched others catch large flounder and landed at least 9 myself. I threw back 7 of them to get even bigger for others to catch. the two i kept where 3 and 5 lbs. i just took them out of the Zatarans(sp) cornmeal and put them on to fry.

Hello, this is my 1st post!
I just moved to Pensacola from Nashville, TN and have decided to learn how to fish. I have started off with a $30 Walmart pole and a small amount of tackle.

My 2nd day at the Pensacola pier I caught:

two shark (approx 18"-24" long)

a Pompano

Bull Red from Palafox Pier

Hi guys, I'm a new poster but have been frequenting the forum for quite a while.

Well yesterday I went down to the pier and caught a fairly nice Bull Red.

Mostly people were catching white trout. I was just floating a cig out at the end. Then my rod bend and reel exploded. You all know the feeling. Well after 30 mins I pulled it up took a few pics. We measured it, and it came in at 39 inches long and 22 inches in girth.

I released it back for someone else to catch. It was amazing feeling as that creature swim back into the darkness.

We just returned from our trip to St Andrews. Tried kayak fishing 10/17 but the surf was pretty rough early that morning got out fine, fished fine, but getting back to the beach was rough. i got flipped but it was only waist deep and i had already stored everything in the hatch. Did not get a bite on the kayak. saw several Jacks running bait but they were not interested.

also fished in the bay one day on the yak catching a bunch of grunts!

Surf fished a few times with cut bait and only caught catfish.

Fished from the pier two nights. first night we used live shrimp and caught several keeper grey snapper. The next night we used cut bait and boateda mixed bag of bluefish, catfish, ladyfish, and remoras.

also saw a big ole rattlesnake the first day there about 20 yards away from our tent!

My boy and I, got out there about 2pm. Lots of bait. The boy(Nick) caught 3 black snappers on elwyes(a hair too short) About 3:30 the spainish started hitting, my boy caught 3 nice ones on elwyes, me I kept trying lures(too lazy to use sabiki for bait) but I finnally caught a nice one on gotcha. We also caught a small shark on cut mullet and two gars. We 're having fried spainish for lunch today.

hey guys,

I,m new here and this is my 1st ever post.my brothers and i brought our dad

down friday morning and we whacked em-for about a day and a half(gotchas,bubble rigs, and caught some pretty good flounder on jigs too!we had to leave on sunday a.m. and we still went to the pier for about 3.5 hours and didnt do anygood at all!

did it ever get any better yesterday afternoon?it was slick yesterday morning and we thought we,d killem but it never happened.

I hit up bob sykes and a few other spots last Wednesday and had a little luck. I caught a couple of spanish, small cobia, remora, baby snappers, small flounder and then moved spots. Once I moved spots I caught three nice reds and a big ol' blue. One was 27.25, one was 24 and the other was 29 inches. Sorry guys no pics.....can't be giving away my spots.

Friday, I headed out to 3 mile with a friend to fish around the lights. The white trout were everywhere as usual. The great thing was, that these trout were freaking huge! We caught some that were 2lbs or more. I mean slabs.....for white trout anyway. Later into the night my buddy Ken caught 3 reds two were in the slot and one wasn't. A cooler full of trout and a keeper red to top it off.

sorry its a late post, but i just got a pic of a 45# jack i caught off the pier on a stud hardtail........and one a lil smaller hit first, but ran straight under the pier and snapped me off:banghead....so i tied on a mono rig with a 7/0 hook and threw out another hardtail and witin a minute i saw this guy shoot out from under the pier....an hour give or take fight on 15# line...fun as hell!!!!

I don't take a camera with me when I fish because I never catch anything when I do. I also very rarely keep anything I catch. I still have a bunch of AJ and grouper in the freezer so why keep more.

Friday 9/19- Got out to the bridge around 5:30 pm. I played with the Spanish until the sun went down, caught maybe 4 or 5 with a bunch more hook-ups. After dark I switched to bottom fishing with dead shrimp and cut bait. It was a good night with lots of action. Some of the highlights were a nice size stingray, maybe a foot and a half across and a 2 1/2 or 3 foot shark. It was a bull or black tip, I'm not sure, I'm not a big shark guy. But both gave me good runs on the light tackle I use. The best was the 2 slot reds, 23 and 24 inches respectivley and the 37 inch bull red that almost spooled me. That bull red hit a big peice of cut Whiting and when the hook set he made a run for Quiet water beach and I didn't think I was going to stop him. I gave one of the slots to someone fishing next to me and the others went back to fight another day.

Saturday 9/20- Got to the bridge around 2pm. The wind was kind of stiff. I hooked up on a couple of Spanish early but after that nothing. About an hour after dark the wind kicked up something fierce and I didn't catch anything but a few cat fish and Whiting.

Went out the last couple of days around noon to 2:00 or so to Bob Sikes to see how the Spanish were doing.

1st day out saw no bait on the bridge & had to hit a few docks to pick up some LY, sorry "Scaled Sardines", because the Pier beside the

Bridge was being repaired. The wind was kicking it from the NE, but the tide was heading in so a buddy & me decided to try it anyway.

Managed to catch 4 nice Spanish about 14 inches or so & broke off at least 10 or so before we had to leave. We decided to return today &

try our luck...Got there around 1:00 or so & there were TONS of "scaled sardine" around the bridge & Spanish were tearing them to pieces.

After casting some free lined live scaled sardine for an hour or so with only 3 or 4 takers we decided that the Spanish must have been to full

to feed & decided that Crown & Cokes in the backyard sounded better than smelling dead sardines on the bridge..& not catching fish

By the way, could we please try & throw some of the sardine back that we don't need? I mean, I normally don't bitch about this type of

thing, but there looked to be a hundred or so dead sardine just lying in a pile about 25 yards from where we were fishing & I noticed other

piles up & down the bridge. I'm not saying we should cut the Sound down to no wake for the sardines safety, but at least after we load our

buckets with bait maybe we could shake our nets over the water to free the other guys?
