I've started keeping a log of what the tides are doing every time I go fishing and what I caught. However, I still have some questions for some of those with more knowledge on this topic than me.

I've been catching some trout at around 5:30-7:00 in the morning on topwaters. Around 7 it seems as if the bite dies with the rising of the sun. Every time I've gone the tide has been very high and just starting to ebb. I'm wanting to go Saturday, but the tide is supposed to be less than it was earlier in the week. So the question is if the tide is less will the bite be less or for not as long? I'm gonna go and see what my results will be, but I know the weather and such can also effect the outcome. Just interested in people's thoughts.

Thanks so much

Emerald coast redfish club

The 2009 season is just around the corner and we have already started planning. If anyone is interested in joining an awsome club w/ great tournaments pm me or check out the web site for contact info. www.theredfishclub.com

reds and specks in 30 degree weather

going fishing for reds and specks on saturday at the mouth of the river. any advice on most productive methods during a cold snap. probally using artificials.

I need some advice

I need some advice, when I first got into fishing along time ago I kept buying spinning reels, Shimano, Shakespeare, Quatom, Pflueger,Penn, you name it I prolly had one. They range from all prices from $30 to $100 but, after a year to a year and half all these reel would lock up. All had the same problem, the gears were plastic and they would strip. Well I started learning about older reels with metal gears and currently thats all I use [Shakespeare 2052,2062,2200,2210; Penn 710,716,706,704]. Well the one downfall to these reels is they are slow and from time to time I find myself in need of a high speed reel. I dont want to go buy another reel just for it to lock up in a few months.

Anybody have any suggestions on a good reel, Ive been leaning towards a Shimano Stradic, but i have heard of some problems with them.

Navarre Bridge??

Has anyone caught fish off of the seawall by the Navarre Beach bridge?? I've never really fallen in love with any inshore blanks I've built and never invested the money into a higher end blank like I have on some of my larger spinning set-ups. So, I'm looking for some input from you guys. I'll probably be throwing a lot of jerk baits and other soft plastics. 1/8 - 1/s oz probably. It will probably get a shimano 3000 size reel with 20lb power pro. They loved the pics and may use some in their publications. They were impressed for the most part with the way we handle our fish and that is why they liked the pics.
I was asked to forward this request in as friendly and positive a manner as I possibly can....

"One comment on the pictures: we discourage anglers from holding their catch by the throat as in “bullred 5” as that can cause internal damage by being held vertically like that. That being said I find it VERY hard to get used to open faced (Spin cast reels), even now that I am salt water fishing I fish with two open faced and one closed Zebco Rhino with the Zebco being my fave as it is what I am comfortable with. I like fishing the grass flats and docks and primarily fish for Specs and Reds and the Rhino allows me to close cast just like I would if I was fishing for bass. So my question is do they make a baitcaster that is suited for saltwater and that will hold up to the corrosive salt water effects ???? Now I realize if I ever start catching monster bulls or head out in the gulf I will probably have to get used to open faced reels but as for now I like a push button that I can COMFORTABLY get the bait and or lure EXACTLY where I want it.

Broken rod. About 20 minutes into the trip I hook into this monster.

I thought it was a big bull red at first but after about 30 minutes of him pulling me around with no signs of slowing I figured maybe a big shark. After almost an hour I finally got a slight glimpse of it. I knew it wasnt a bull red but it didnt really look like a shark either. He finally pulled me up into some shallow water (about 5' deep) and I got a good look, but still not quite sure what it is.

Sorry the pics are so bad. I couldnt get it close enough to the surface for a good pic and its hard to fight and photo at the same time. We estimated that it was 7' - 8' long. It looked like it had large scales on its back. You can see in the pics that there is a pattern of scales all the way down its spine. The head was somewhat pointed.

After well over an hour I decided that there wasnt enough room in the yak for me and him so I decided to break him off. I cranked the drag down and finally the hook pulled out and saved my lure. I was amazed at how much pressure you can apply to 20lb Powerpro That fish was well over 100lbs judging from the length and girth.

No redfish for the day but it was an interesting trip. All in all I think they a much better reel for a lot less moeny at this deal!

$74.99 & there's a $30 off purchase of $150 or more....check it out!

Follow the link

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0053213122486a&navCount=1&podId=0053213&parentId=cat20333&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat20333&catalogCode=8IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20333&hasJS=true

Eight ball bearings (2CRBB + 5BB + 1RB)
Compact all-metal frame
Titanium-coated line roller
Corrosion-resistant stainless steel components
Machined, anodized-aluminum spool
Sealed drag system with oiled washers

Additional Info

•

Tech Specs

•

Buyer's Guide

The only way we could improve on our already popular Prodigy spinning reel was to add DigiGear™ digital gearing for a reel so smooth, you have to turn the handle to believe it. I found a great deal on a 16ft Bayliner. The boat is now serviced and the livewell is running! I have picked up a 6ft cast net to try to learn casting for live bait, and my son (10) and myself ( aint sayin! ) have been out 4 or so times, wetting line and fooling around. Now our only fish to claim was about a 14" spec caught while casting for bait, and we released the unlucky fellow!!

Long story short, we need help :) I have been launching at Woodlawn in Navarre, and we have been fishing the areas around the grass beds. We have tried the Pensacola beach bridge. Different setups: spoons, jigs, gulp under cork, and pinfish. Most of these from reading books and this forum. I was hoping some folks might have some tips. I am not looking for sweet spot information, but more about what to look for to identify where the fish may be, what rigs/bait might be good for what is our there this time of year, and depth possible location to go after them. Casting/retrieving techniques. To be frank, anything you might think could help us along. My son is not the most patient, and I want to keep his attention with something we can do together, but after this last trip out, I think his patience with my lack of experience :sick is souring his desire to try this.

I have booked a guide to show us around in November, but still would love any help to get us going between now and then... and beyond :)

Thanks in advance!!

Looking for a boat launch.

I'm looking for a boat launch to get me close to blackwater where yellow river flows in. I'll be coming from Crestview area. I know of the 87 yellow river bridge but thought there may be somewhere better. Also, Is that area fishable with a 17' ski boat...or do i need to use my 14' jon boat?

What else is out there? Fish Wise.

OK. I do not want to sound like a cocky or boasting person when i say this. But i have caught 200+ reds in the last two seasons combined. I am not saying that i don't like catching these beautiful fish. I am just saying i am ready for something else. What else is out there at night? Should i start shark fishing? Are the Kings still in during the day? If so then where is the best place for them right now? I guess i just need a change of scenery. Thanks guys.

17 ave ramp

If I launch my boat at 17th ave which part of the bridge would be the best fishing? I have been fishing along scenic since the summer time. I've caught countless specks, reds, and crap fish. I've gone out to my regular spots the last few weekends and have had absolutely no luck. Is there any other good spots in the area that I can get to without a boat? I dont like bridges or piers. I try to stay away from the overfished and crowded spots.

Any ideas?

Question about colored fishing line

The other day I was fishing with trilene big game green line. This was in mobile bay with brackish, colored water. I got very few bites while my son and paw in law caught about 10 different fish. Same rigging type and hooks and bait. This is the first time I fished with this color line and based on my results, I might take it off. I would like to get some opinions on using different colored line.
